Another top box question
« on: August 18, 2016, 17:57:24 »
Hi,

Sorry I'm sure there are probably 100s of answers to this already out there I just struggle to navigate them all.

I have (or am about to have) a VStrom 1000 (16 plate) and want a Givi Trekker Outback Aluminium top box. Can anyone tell me what rack I will need?

Also if anyone knows any good websites for getting them at a reasonable price that would be great too.

Cheers in advance

You need a normal Monokey base plate. I have a 58 litre Trekker Outback on my Glee. For some strange reason the Outback panniers have a different fitment, but the top boxes use the Monokey fitment.

Thank you.

What do I need for the panniers?

Mark I saw your pic of the panniers on your bike. Looks great. I want the solid looking Trekker Outback ones.

Can anyone advice re: pannier rack.

Thanks.

http://www.motorcycleplanet.co.uk/products/1733-givi-pl3105cam-pannier-rack-for-Suzuki-dl-1000-v-strom/

Just google the Givi product code to find where you can get it cheapest. I have bought many Givi products from the EU and delivery is usually just a few days and some places, Motocard being one, domfree delivery over a certain value.

This place is cheap. They are in Italy, which is where Givi is manufactured

Hi. Thank you for all being so helpful.

Will this fit straight on?
http://www.motea.com/gepaeck/topcase-und-zubehoer/topcases--universalplatte/givi-monokey-topcase-obk58a-silber-i4063-216568-0.htm

Or do I need something first that the universal plate attaches to?

Thanks in advance.

Not au fait with the 1000s, but if it has a rack I am sure the universal base plate in your link would work. You might just want to buy some bolts to use existing fixing points rather than the 'clamps' provided with the base plate.
If you intend to take a pillion, bear in mind that every Givi fitment I have ever bought has placed the box a little too close to the seat, restricting pillion space. An advantage with universal base plates is that they afford some adjustment.
