From another V-Strom site, high mileage on a DL1000, http://www.stromtrooper.com/DL1000-2002-2012/347681-424-303-mile-last-k3-DL1000-writeup.html. The DL650 will last like most motorcycles, provided they are serviced at the correct intervals, not abused and are ridding regularly enough. Its not good to let any bike stand too long, without the necessary preparations and even then there could be unforeseen issues

The DL1000 looks to be higher mileage capable without engine work. There is the 400,000 mile plus example and a couple of people have reported more than 200,000 miles. The DL650 looks to need new cam chains around 150,000 miles. Maybe that's because the smaller bike runs longer cam chains over the cams while the bigger bike runs much shorter cam chains to gears below the cams and drives the cams with those gears.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s
