Givi XS308 tanklock bag

I got myself a Givi tank bag so I can carry my camera gear with me, initially I was really impressed until yesterday when it decided to disconnect itself, luckily I was doing about 20 mph at the time and it stayed on the tank due to the safety strap.

At first I thought I hadn't connected it properly but I managed to make it fail again, it seems if the bag is mostly empty with weight in the end of it towards the seat, in this instance my disk lock it puts pressure on the mechanism and can make it come off.

I'm  hoping it's just a dodgy bag I've got, I'm going to send it back for a replacement but it might be worth having a look if anyone else uses the tanklock system.

Good info, it's a very handy system and I've not had any issues (touch wood) I stopped using a safety strap a while age but will start using it again!

I had a Givi pannier (E22) that made a bid for freedom.....seems Givi's combination of plastic fittings and weak springs aren't always up to the job. I use their tanklock bag as well but haven't had a problem (yet!) - though there's a bit more movement than I would like when it's 'locked' on and the springs don't seem particularly robust. I always use the safety strap!

I think it was just how I had the weight distributed, directly over the lock and it seems fine. You can test it by putting some pressure on the rear of the bag and trying to lift the front up.

Sadly the rest of my ride yesterday had me paranoid and periodically checking the bag was still on tight

Just done 2,000 miles in a week with a very heavy lock in the back "pocket" and just a few light odds and sods in the bag. Never a hint of it being unstable or loose. Very positive locking mechanism..... And I cut the  safety straps off mine.

I must admit, the mechanism doesn't seem as strong as I thought it would and there's no positive click on mine.

I will try and get a video of it and put it up later.

I had thought about cutting off the safety strap !
I won't now. 
Mine has also been pretty solid but the ease of connecting the tank bag  and removing it did make me wonder about any issues, if it could 'unclip' itself when in motion.  hate for it to happen particularly at speed.

Looks like will stop being lazy and use strap

When I snipped the strap I left a small tab so I could punch an eyelet in if needed

I've  requested a return so will send it back, it's almost like the lock ring it comes with is too small to secure it properly. I will have to find something else now for the Wales trip doh!

Weird. Lock rings should all be same o/d. Just different at the point they mount to the filler ring. You definitely have a Givi BF01 lock ring?

Yep, it seems to be the plastic ring that comes with the bag and the red sprung loaded latches seem really easy to push in, is that normal?

I looked over these for my new Glee but I already have a couple of Baglux bags and I wasn't convinced that the locking mechanism would not get damaged when off the bike. There isn't a lot that can go wrong with the baglux system.

I have the Givi XS system and have had no problems cut the safety tabs off too, I reckon you have a dodgy one.
