VSTROM Colour
« on: July 25, 2016, 10:52:30 »
Hi all, I'm quite new to the site and was looking for a bit of advice. I need to get a touch up pen for my Blue 2008 DL1000 K7 GT.  I have scratched the side panniers and I was wondering what is the specific colour to ask for? Thanks for your help in advance. :bow-blue:

It could be anyone of three blues.
If you look at the service record book, it should have the colour code written down, just pop along to a place that mixes paint, (halfrauds do it) and they will tell you the colour from the code.

Just a thought.
My Wee is GRAND CANDY BLUE, and I could not get a decent colour match with a stick, ended up repainting the side panels and tank to make it right, so be aware.

GW may have some more info

out of curiosity ( I may do it in future) what would be the approximate cost of changing the colour to say, candy red, including dvla notifications?

Paint, would need 6 rattle cans at about £15 each
Top coat would be clear, about 4 cans at £7 each
Primer and silver undercoat  about £24
rubbing down paper etc  £10    So about £100 for a colour change if doing it yourself, bit more if body shop does it, but could be a better job

Changing colour with DVLA   free

yep, can't add up as well as can't spell !!!!!!
I only state that number of rattle cans due to what I used when I painted tank panels and tank, took 3.5 cans, had half a can left. That was three coats on them. Full colour change would require at least one more for rear panels, so perhaps get away with 5 cans in total. Its a shame they are not cheaper. I thinbk if I was to change a colour of a bike, I would go for a straight colour, like red or white, you can get six cans off e bay for about £30.

Not sure if it's the same in the motoring paint world but most diy paint suppliers now have a sort of camera thing you can take a colour sample in and they will read it with this device and mix you the exact colour.
If available in bike paint may be useful if the original colour has faded?

MRP192 - thanks for the positive and informative reply. Not sure what the rest are going on about, only asked for advice on bike colour for panniers touch-up.  Ended up having a total respray paint job and DVLA update. O well at least the post was read...

No worries, incidentally went to my local Wilco Auto store for my car yesterday and they had a paint match sign up outside. Not sure how they do it but might be worth ringing if you have a branch near you?

Its was OBALANGA's post that prompted the respray replies.
