So - How long do Vstrom 1000s last

So I've a 2004 K3 Vstrom - been looking to change and the tradeins  have been mostly insulting.

Its has the share alike clutch conversion valves done recently and runs really well , its done 44K miles and climbing always been reliable. What miles can they do realistically ?

I'm kind of at a cross roads.

DO I let it go for pennies or run it into the ground, what's likely to go wrong on it, at the moment its running superbly and I need to sort out tyres (only 5k out the Bridgestone A40's).

I'm erring on the side of keeping it at the moment, possibly running 2 and getting something different as a second bike - confused as always hope someone can pass on some wisdom.

Just out of interest, what figures have you been offered on tradein-ins, and what were you hoping for?

Just run in. I sold my last bike (600 Hornet) with 70k on the clock. Thirteen years old and still running like a dream. Modern engines will last forever if looked after.

Rich. I was at an Indy dealer over the weekend with a friend who was trading his bike in, whilst there I asked what mine was worth. Its a K7 GT with 15k on the clock.

To my surprise he said its book price was £1900 but if I was to trade it in he would give me £2500. Not looking to trade in so said thanks...not sure why I thanked him after being insulted!
Wouldn't like to think what they'd offer for a K3

Two dealers said £900 another said he didn't want it against 5 and 6k bikes.

I would think your best bet is ebaying it if you are determined to change. I'd imagine you would get at least £1500, maybe £2000.

Ordered 2 new tyres as I'm borderline illegal - I think what I may do is buy cash over winter then punt mine on EBAY come Easter time - chance to tart it up over the winter period. As mechanically its great just needs some "shinyness" applied.

I think I would buy a bike from a dealer (with cash) as you can drive the price to a reasonable level, and you get the peace of mind of a worthless 30 day warranty  , and at least it's likely been HPI checked... but no way would I trade a bike in.
They don't want your bike as they buy there's super cheap through a main dealers "cast off's" network or at auction so it's really not in there interest to pay market rate... However when you buy a used bike from them, unless it's been traded in against a new one remember that they probably got it cheap at an auction, and that's where all the best loved bikes end up...  not!

I have access through my brother in law to a car dealer sell off site and its a cheap way to get cars - is there a similar one for bikes ?
