What is high mileage on a Wee/Glee ?

Hi All,

First question (possibly of many!), what would you class as a high mileage bike?
I have seen a couple advertised with 60k on them, is that too high to buy or do these go on and on?
what's the highest someone has?
I know its all about whether the owner has looked after it but just looking for some guidance as I look for a bike.

They appear to possibly need new cam chains at about 125,000 miles. I know of many that have over 100,000 miles. The important part of getting a higher mileage bike is the service history. If scheduled maintenance has been done, chances are you'll get another 60,000 mile on the bike with no major expense. It may be time for new wheel, steering stem  and suspension link bearings though so check those for rust or roughness.

I had 60k on my wee when 4th gear disintegrated (metal fatigue seems to be an issue for about 5 k5+k6 bikes internationally 4th gear, but it wouldn't put me off buying another)
Juvecu had 110k on his k5, when he sold it to another member here but we haven't had an update.
The bikes are fairly solid but suzukis wiring leaves a lot to be desired if you plan on running the bike year round in the weather. But there are fairly easy preventative measures that can be taken to minimise issues.

If cared for they will run and run.

Weak points are the headlight wiring and stator life. Headlight relays installed early will head off the former and replacing the rectifier/regulator with a series type will make conditions easier for the stator. Both conditions are fairly easy to fix and are more irritating than final.

I won't rule out a high miler if it has been looked after.
Didn't realise some had 125k on them  :shock:

My XJ has 45k, just run in  :icon_wink:

Oh yeah. My wee didn't feel like the engine had been broken in until 20k.
A lot of people buy these bikes put a few thousand miles on them and sell them... they're missing the best bit.

'12 Glee at 59k (bought her with 36k on 18 months ago) - still purring like a good 'one  :lala: and I expect to double it.
