Crash bars
« on: July 05, 2016, 17:14:18 »
After 4000 miles trouble free tour of Europe the vstrom developed an annoying buzz/rattle at 4K rpm. I rode home and investigated.
The top near side tube of the crash bars had sheared. It is an almost perfect break. Very symmetrical, almost as if cut by a pipe cutter. The bike has not been dropped or bashed. I assume it is a fatigue break perhaps caused by the tube being in tension and the vibration from the bike. Anyone else seen this?

Sounds like you are right, get it slugged and welded, relieving the tension and making it stronger.
