ground clearance
« on: June 16, 2016, 08:33:08 »
Hi all. Just a little warning folks about the ground clearance.  I was skimming through a lefthand corner last week thinking I was Joey Dunlop, hero bob just touchin the ground when bang and something hard hit the deck. The left foot of the Suzuki main stand hit hard.  Lucky I had both sides of the road to play with. So if your over that far be careful

The Suzuki stand comes with a longer feeler for the left side footpeg to warn the rider. Is yours set up that way? Shift your body weight to the inside of the turn to increase ground clearance. That doesn't mean you need to use racer tactics and slide your bum on the seat. Just getting your chin over the inside mirror is normally enough. Keeping your body more upright than the lean of the bike will push the inside of the bike down in a turn.

The Veek doesn't come with a longer hero bob, well mine didn't.  To old to hang off, to be fair this was at speed, over 90mph so plenty of load on the suspension, the tt makes you do stupid things!  Just lettin folk know when that footrest is touchin down be carefully, none folding stuff is mm's away!

Or the lesson is, if doing the TT remove the centre stand before you go...  :auto-dirtbike: :auto-dirtbike: :auto-dirtbike:

Should have. The ground was so uneven I never used it. The finish was always wick on it but it looks worse now!

So the footpeg was touching. You don't normally have to hang off, just make sure your head is over the inside mirror rather than the outside one. If that doesn't do the trick. you are cornering too fast for the street. Try a track day.

The tt is a track day! No speed limit, one way traffic and beautiful smooth fast corners but this could just as easy happen on your local roundabout,  I wasn't pushin that hard

I should have worded my reply better as a general rule instead of your specific case. Where I'm at, a serious track day would require taping over the lights, safety wiring oil and coolant containment bolts and centre stand removal.

I'd say it is known world wide, as much or more than Monaco for cars.

Thank's for the heads up Porter. I have not got around to fitting a center stand yet and I must say the OEM stand does look a tad wide.

I think if I was doing it again I'd try the sw motech main stand.   Looks lighter, the springs and bolts are cadium plated and its cheaper to boot. Ps my Brighstone A40's where grippin great at that point, I could have cranked over more if there was the ground clearance.
