Random wire identification help..
« on: June 12, 2016, 12:12:02 »
Hi All,

I am planning to tidy up all the electrics on my bike and have just started having a quick nosey to see what's what. The bike has an aftermarket alarm fitted up into the tail, currently there are two wires that look to me to be part of the stock loom just trailing where the toolkit goes. Can anyone identify them? Cheers

That other 'wire' is just rubber sheath.

It looks like the rubber loop that ties the tool kit down has broken.

Ah I see, that's what the rubber is for lol yes there are two random pieces floating about. Anyone recognise the two wires? Seems very strange as there aren't any other leccy bits in the back end besides the alarm and everything else works?

The other thing I've noticed is that the front sides and rear taillights have been changed to LEDs that annoyingly slightly flicker and look a bit crap. Hoping to put these back to standard, will the LEDs have required mods to the wiring?

Hi , it's hard to say what two wires are, they maybe something to do with the data tool alarm, maybe a seat switch wire ?. I would start by seeing where they go which may require removing panels Etc. If everything at the back is working I wouldn't worry too much but if they are live cover them up to make sure you don't blow any fuses .
If the LED's are just a bulb replacement there shouldn't have been any wiring mods so changing them back to normal bulbs should be easy enough .

Thanks kwackboy, it probably is more likely to be related to the alarm. I'll get the panels off and take a good look at some point. Any opinions on LED bulbs? I'm wondering whether the ones I have are just cheap and maybe better ones are a good alternative to the standard side/taillights?

The wires are definitely not stock.

A lot of LED sets on the rear have indicators within them, but they are not often wired up. It's possible they could be left over from that.

Have you tried putting a multimeter on them and seeing any voltage passes through when you do anything etc ?
