Notchy throttle at opening
« on: May 24, 2016, 08:35:51 »
I was riding home last night and the throttle was ever so 'notchy' at opening. It wasn't stiff to turn (open or close) and the twistgrip closed of it's own free will. It's just the initial part of opening when it was a touch stiff. The cable free play is as per the manual (2mm)

I dismantled the handlebar assembly and everything seemed OK, no crud in there, the twistgrip moves freely (as it did when it was on. I did it all back up but still the same.

Any ideas?

Cables frayed or worn their flexible /rigid housings, or maybe just need a good lube comes to mind in the first instance.

Last time mine was like that I just squirted loads of WD40 into the throttle housing  through a hole in the bottom which seemed to help

I noticed that mine has started doing the same...shortly followed by a 'chec' error...still fighting it though.
Old enough to know better, but still too young to care...

I have just squirted some wd40 through the hole in the throttle switchgear housing. While I was at it I got my young lad to sit on the bike and open and close the throttle while I looked to see what was going on at the other end of the cables. There's a link bar between the two cylinders so squirted some wd40 on the springs\pivot points at both ends of the bar. It was just a quick job... I didn't remove anything.

I'll be on the bike tomorrow so will report back if there's any improvement.

Cheers,
biglad

Fingers crossed for you. I had to give the link bar plenty of WD40 when I got unexpected cruise control- sorted it a treat. Never had a Chec error come up though.

Massive difference today. Note to self: scoosh some wd40 at it a bit more often.
