where can I find a voltmeter like this
« on: May 23, 2016, 20:10:43 »
I bought a voltometer for my old africa twin a few years ago and want to buy another one for my vstrom. The old one was just a bulb and it showed green when good and flashed different colours, amber and red depending on the state of the charging circuit

see image, I put it in the bottom left of the light indication cluster

All I can find now are ones that show the actual current. When riding I don't want to read and diagnose the current, I just want a simple light showing me when there's a problem. does anyone now where I can find one?

My Brother just bought one from Ebay. There's plenty of types around.

Hi,
I don't currently have pictures but I have a volt reader wired into my loom (ignition side) so when the bike is running you can see what volts are being put into the battery . It's not 100% accurate but it does the job and I would know right away if there was any issues. I have fitted it into the panelling next to my clocks and it's waterproof.
Because I'm anal about covering potential charging issues I even have a spare regulator fitted which is ready and waiting to be plugged in in minutes .
In order to get a good reading it's best to wire the voltage reader into the brake light switch circuit.

Here you go , just found a picture . If I'm honest the only real issue for which I didn't forsee is that it's a bit hard to read in direct sunlight but that's easily sorted ..

Looking for one that just shows a warning when not charging correctly, don't want to be distracted trying to read voltages while riding taking my mind off the job in hand

That's what I thought when I fitted it but I got used it being there now . The warning light is also a great idea  :thumb:
