Mirror fitting - numpty question...

Hi all,

Having read lots of posts here about replacement mirrors I was under the impression that I needed to buy right hand thread mirrors which I duly ordered and received. On receipt, however, they don't fit! Have I cocked up in spades, or am I missing something simple...???

I've just had a thought... Bike is a 14 plate 650 and there are two silver parts on the stock mirror. I've only removed the top one that comes away with the mirror - do I need to remove the bottom one too? Will that reveal the cunningly hidden right hand thread?
