Car problem
« on: January 23, 2016, 19:41:36 »
Around 5 weeaks ago when I got into thecar and put the ignition key in, all I heard were a few beeps and a click sound when turning the key. The ignition would not engage. Got the neighbour to give me a jump start and the car was brilliant. Started straight away, immediately with the jump start.

Then two weeks later the same thing happened and again he gave me a jump start and everything was fine until this afternoon when the same thing happened again. Just a few beeps and nothing. All electrics work fine. Used the car yesterday and it was fine.

The car is a 2007 Mercedes C220 CDi Sports with AMG styling. Ayone any ideas? Some fellow on the forum says it happened to him but it was the gearing which although indicated 'P', but was in reality stuck in 'D'. Now this cannot be the case with my car as it did start with jump leads.

Again, anyone any ideas?

Don't want to state the obvious being a Biker but leads from battery to starter have to be your first strip and clean.

Yes, Prof - just think like it's a bike! You'd immediately suspect connections from battery posts, then the battery itself fading. This is the classic time of year for them to feel the strain having heaters on, lights etc. They can have enough juice to run your electrics, but the juice required to turn the engine might not be there. You need to measure the batteries outputs under load/running etc. Either multimeter it, or just get a relatively cheap battery tester.

A 07 car, the earth's could be involved?

It could be any number of things, the battery has to be the first thing to check out.

+1 on the battery on it's last legs. My Volvo actualy told me low battery before I started it. It only does short runs with everything on, heated seats, screens and mirrors. It's still on the original from 2005...
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

It has to be the battery or the connections to the battery with those symptoms. Anything else and the jump would not have made a difference.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.

agree with the rest, sounds like battery, I would start by checking the battery on a 07 merc it is probably the original so it is ready to fail. if OK clean the connections at battery and starter.
