2017 model with 120hp and new crankshaft ?!
« on: November 26, 2015, 19:24:39 »
I have a dealer that is great friend of mine and he always tells me the news much sooner then they're announced by Suzuki. The same happened with ECU replacement.
Today I went to his dealership for a cup of coffee and he told me he heard rumors that 2017 model will come with "refreshed" engine, bringing 120hp and completely new crankshaft and some other bits in engine. He doesn't know more then that and he said he had no confirmation, just a rumor.
I don't know what to think about this, I wasn't even sure if I should have posted here any of these words but at the end I decided to do it because maybe someone here has heard something about it too.

Sounds like it's trying to scare people half to death! You could hardly say the current model would be really good if it just had another 20% more oompf! Still, what'll do a lot, will do a little...

That sounds like fun to me, but to get an increase of that amount you would have to lose some of the low to mid range torque, unless it was a substancial capacity increase, and I imagine would involve more revs, shorter stroke, and a more radical camshaft with larger diameter inlet tracts.

It will be interesting to see the validity of the rumour, but for me, with the mods I am undertaking I think the bike will have a good real world power delivery, adequate for my needs.

Suzuki did patent a variable valve timing a few months ago, I seen the drawings on another site and it looked like a v strom motor OK. That would give the motor the power and keep the low down torque too. They are using vvt on the new gsxr 1000 next year. Funny my old swift car had it but my new one doesn't and boy could it use it!

The current one is fine....besides I think the current setup could handle the extra power with no problems of upgrading of the brakes and suspension

I agree Roadrocket, ours is labeled as 100bhp, reality is more like 85 at the wheel, this at 120bhp, with loss through to the rear wheel, and the all too common exaggeration from the manufacturer, I bet it's about 100bhp at the wheel.

Time you have uncorked the current unit you're not too far shy of that, and those who have done it report it fine to ride, with a substancial weight loss too.

OK if they manage to maintain the Torque spread and a bit more top end, but in day to day or tour to tour use would make little difference to the journey time. Maybe noticeable for a flat out top speed comparison run between old and future model on an Autobahn but those times of any noticeable difference, in just a 20 BHP hike, are going to be few and far between.
