Rabbit Near Miss
« on: August 27, 2015, 20:14:11 »
Hi,

I almost hit a rabbit the other week on the bike. I can only imagine it went between the front and rear wheel at 60mph.

But....would a rabbit have you off the bike?

A few years ago I had a suicidal pheasant run out from the side of the road. Here is the aftermath

After it hit me I felt a vibration at my right knee so I thought it had broken something, but it was the headless pheasant still running!
Life is short - You have to enjoy it on a Wee-Strom!

A few years back I hit a sheep on my XR250, both wheel hit square on, I didn't come off, I stopped and went back to the sheep lying on its back with its legs quivering, as I approached it , it jumped up and ran off.
Must have had internal injuries, I would have thought.
I've been asked why I have 3 bikes, well that's because I'm not allowed any more.

I've hit and killed badger, which is like hitting a concrete block. And a rabbit, which the bike hardly noticed. Both were on straight stretches of road so didn't cause a problem (for me).

I agree with Badgers being like concrete. Coming home one night off a late shift, came across two badgers in the middle of the road, fighting. Could not make up my mind whether to pass left or right of them, as did not know which way they were going to run, so did a pretty quick stop instead, and one went to left, other went to right DOH.
Having a bird hit your crash helmet also packs a punch

Compared to the piece of 4x2 that came off the back of a builders truck and bounced to head height last Wednesday requiring a modicom of ducking and weaving I would have settled for the rabbit any time.

I had to take avoiding action last week when part of the heat shield on Jen's Enfield flew off.

I've hit a phesant with the bash plate on the Wee a few years ago. It was delicious.
The thing came bounding down a field from the left, jumped over a small stone wall and ran right in front of the bash plate behind the front wheel. I saw it coming but couldn't make avoiding action.
My mate picked it up and put it in my empty pannier.
Pannier stank for months.
