Popped fork seals -scratched stanchion.
« on: August 03, 2015, 12:04:54 »
I replaced the fork seal many times before noticing a scratch on the left stanchion.

Is there a way to make it go away? Or will I have to fork out (hehe) for a new stanchion??

The right one has popped as well, I've just noticed.

You can have them re-chromed. Not sure whether (or how much) that's cheaper than a new one as you still have to dismantle the front end.

Have a look at Juvecu's refurb thread as he had that done then.

His current status on what has already been sold would suggest he still has them.

Noteworthy other items still available (offers welcome, but I'll larf at you if it's too silly):
(This isn't an exhaustive list by a long stretch)
- rechromed front forks stanchions with satin black powder coated front fork lowers
Send him a PM ?

He's not sold them yet as far as I'm aware.

This should not be happening on a bike of this age.As you will be aware the stanchions need to be kept as clean as they can as bits of grit and crap can get past the dust guards and damage the seals. Article in MCN the other week stating brake dust is abrasive stuff that if left on the Fork stanchions will damage fork seals !

There is more to a clean bike than looks alone.

The scratch is curved...

I'm suspecting stone strike or vandalism. I'm guessing the other one popped due to repeated lack of contact between the front wheel and the ground. Yes, I'm stupid for participating in such a reckless and totally illegal act. May my soul be ripped from my cold dead corpse and burn for eternity in the fiery depths of hell etc.
