After playing with it a bit, it came away in my hand!
« on: August 15, 2015, 16:23:16 »
I was doing some maintenance and follow-up cleaning on my wee today when I noticed the rust forming around the clamp that joins the exhaust to the front pipes (see diagram).

I gave it a clean and as I was doing so it came apart in my hand - the rust had eaten through the part that faces down and onto the road.  :angry-tappingfoot:

Now, the worrying thing is that I can see no evidence that this is a simple clamp that can be replaced. Instead it looks like it is (was) welded to the pipe assembly - is this right?

I can get an exhaust clamp or a wide jubilee clip and replace it with that if needs be, but does Suzuki really expect you to replace an otherwise perfectly good exhaust if this clamp breaks?

Mine did the same in the wee. I replaced with with a normal clamp from eBay, you'll want to check, but I think it was 45mm to 55mm jubilee.

If you replace it, get a proper stainless exhaust clamp (ebay) Mikalor (?) are a decent brand but check it has a stainless bolt - many just have a plated mild steel bolt

OK, I think I've found it. The advert states;

    Stainless Steel Band
    (AISI-304)
    Zinc Plated Steel Bolt
    Beveled Edges
    Swiveling Bridge (ease of use)
    Suitable for High Pressure Applications

.. so "Zinc Plated Steel Bolt"

The link to the page is here;

Just checked the diameter at the point where the clamp was welded on - it's 44.72mm.
