Service Help
« on: August 15, 2015, 20:58:43 »
Hi,

My 650 L2 2012 is due a 7500 mile service. Its the first time I've done this having not owned the bike very long but the book indicates its due now. So I'm following the manual guide for this mileage and I'm just not sure whether to get a Suzuki service kit or get the bits separately....

The Suzuki kit is £63 plus £30 ish for oil = £93 ish

I need plugs (NGK CR8E) @ £18 for 4
Oil and Oil filter @ £30-£40.
Air filter @ £20 (at least)
Total (at least) £68.

Then.....in my service book it indicates the shop where the bike was originally sold will do it for £117 an that may well also include a cooolant change.

What would you do? Gen Suzuki or ebay? and Self of dealer service?

Ta

Changing the plugs at 7 1/2k is taking the pee IMHO, isn't the oil filter 12k, air filter 12 or 15k?

Personally, I like to stick to genuine items but each to their own.

No need for plugs or a coolant change at 7500 miles .. at most , oil , oil filter , check airfilter and change if needed... if not blow the dust out and put it back in.
The rest is just checking stuff .... chain tension/lube ,  tyre pressures  , fluids Etc ..

As for using oem stuff , well I'd use good oil at least and the oil filter  doesn't need to be oem .. if replacing airfilter I'd put in a re usable one like K&N ..

I don't believe the hype.
Hold them into the light & you can see daylight through them
They are a PITA to clean, dry & re oil

If you change your plugs make sure you use iridium ones as mine ran like a pig without them. Dealer said Suzuki had an error in the service manual over part number.

As others have said above...oil and may be filter.

I change my oil every 3500 and replace the oil filter everyother, but depending if I get a free filter or not, if a free filter is received with the 4l castrol stuff then the strom will get the new filter.

Plugs, air filter was changed at 15k miles (roughly) when the shims were checked/replaced due to ease & accessibility (mainly plugs).  I also changed the stock air filter to a K&N due to the amount of crud (motorway) the stock had absorbed.

Not sure when the coolant needs to be replaced....I should look at the manual if it states these finer details.
Regards,

Chalky,

I've run K&N filters in nearly all my bikes , never had an issue . My CB500 has had one for the last 50000 miles and total mileage is over 105000 miles and She runs like a Swiss watch .. I've even got one in my audi .. !!
I know they are not everyone's choice but there is a reason that they are sold all over the world .  :thumb:
