Chain and sprockets for glee
« on: June 15, 2015, 12:35:17 »
Hi all. I'm about to replace chain and sprockets on my 2013 glee. So is chain and sprockets the same for glee and wee?

The Glee uses the same chain and sprockets as the Wee from 2007 - 2011 model years, K7-L1. They use 118 link chains while the 2004-2006, K4-K6, use 116 link chains.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

DID X ring chain and JT sprockets are a favourite around here.
You could go for the 'gold' chains for that bit of bling but it will reduce corrosion of the chain link plates.

Hi All
What a great site. That would explain why when I ordered a chain and sprocket kit for my 2007 K6 that I had to remove two links to make it fit, thought I was just unlucky, now I know the reason.

Your K6 may have been registered in 2007, but it's a 2006 model year. If you look for parts or accessories on line, look for 2006 items.

Thanks grey wolf, I am beginning to realise that, funny enough, the bike is very nearly a 2008 registration, 20/12/2007, I have checked, only 1 plug per head.
Thanks to this forum, I will not be making any further mistakes when buying bits
Just for info, I did fit a set from D.I.D, and it was very good, so were the suppliers, Hunters Motorcycles, very helpful. I did manage to over tighten the link, causing one of the seals to pop out, but have a spare link to put on which I will do very soon, when work allows.
I am enjoying my "new to me" bike, so smooth after riding singles for 5 years

Even if you buy the exact correct chain for your model, you often have to remove a link or two so it's always worth checking before riveting.
Imagine riveting the chain only to find its too long.
Of course I'd never make such a school boy error, oh no, not me........
