+25mm dogbones work a treat. EBay is your friend when buying them. I didn't drop my forks through the yokes and nor would I recommend doing so. The top of the fork stanchions should be flush to the top of the top yoke.
Old enough to know better, but still too young to care...

I have 25mm dog bones on my Vee, mainly because I travel two up with camping gear. I've also raised my forks in the yokes (this lowers the front end) by around 12mm . Doing this shortens the wheelbase which can affect the handling, pro's being quicker turning and con's being slightly unstable at top speed. You can only really adjust one way with forks (raising) but (lowering) spacers may be needed. I never really ride flat out anyway so it's a plus for me.

http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Suzuki-DL650-V-Strom-25mm-Jack-up-kit-/110771581967 , wouldn't go any higher unless you can get them made I went up approx 35mm bone pitch of 137mm any higher and the chain slider wouldn't last long also dropped the forks by 15mm ( which only lowers the front not raises ) any more and the front sometimes felt like it wanted to tuck , taller seat is probably the easiest way even though raising the rear is better for the handling because the strom has the trail angle similar to peter fonda's chopper in easy rider

Fonda's dog bones are clearly visible 'twixt bars and top yoke - OK, GW, top tree.
