Portable security
« on: March 22, 2015, 21:49:21 »
My last bike was a 2002 yamaha fazer 6000 and I could get a hefty chain and padlock along with a disk lock under the seat . Now I have a 650 strom and not only am I unable to fit the chain under the seat but the disk lock won't fit the disks !  :angry-tappingfoot: . So my question is what's the best value disk lock or u lock that will fit under the seat ?

You could always put the chain over the seat and around the rack so it looks like you have chained the seat down, might be a bit uncomfortable for a passenger!

I bought a Oxford trip wire which wraps up nicely under the seat on the old shape wee.
Life is short - You have to enjoy it on a Wee-Strom!

I have a Krall disc lock which fits under the seat & goes through the front brake disc
Like this one (look for best price though as just copied 1st link from Google)

Anything to be said for just getting a back box?

Surely any chain that fits under the seat could be broken with an Aldi set of chain snippers.....

I've got one of these, which straps to the inside pannier rail, or on the rear of the seat. It's not pretty but it'll hold a hefty chain and lock no problem, amongst other things. I only tend to use it when travelling, though.

I've got one of those too and have had a 6ft Oxford Hardcore chain in it (on the pillion seat though, not the pannier rails)

I had the same problem with my Oxford disk lock whose head was too small for the holes in the disk. For £10 a local engineering firm made me a large stainless steel washer to fit behind the head of the disk lock.
