Headlight fault
« on: November 04, 2014, 19:42:08 »
This is doing my head in. I have a fault on my headlights (they're not working) have checked the basics bulbs, fuse, plugs all good then I checked wiring loom stripped all the headlight apart to check all cables that go up inside and around headlight cluster, still nothing. It would appear that I have power at fuses (high and low) through switch, I have power at multi plug and at headlight plug but as soon as I plug a bulb in  the power goes so nothing works.

My question is, is there something else in the circuit that may have failed, relay or similar that I am missing to check.

I do have a wiring diagram but not fully understanding what's going on, I'm used to starting at a power source and following from there but that doesn't seem to work for auto electrics (basic knowledge).

Any help much appreciated
If it can't be fixed with a hammer then you have an electrical fault.

A marginal component will not hold up under load. The headlight cutout in the start button switch is by far the most common complaint with the large connector in the left side of the fairing or a connector in back of the radiator top shroud following behind.

Had the same problem once on GSXR 1000 K2. Had voltage OK in the headlight, positive and negative, all working well on voltmeter but whatever I tried, bulb will not light up. Bought new bulb, same thing. Tried both bulbs straight from the battery, they were working. Took me few days and couldn't solve it. Ended up running completely new positive wire from the switch to the headlight (GSXR K2 had ON/OFF switch for lights).
