Sat Nav power supply
« on: November 09, 2014, 13:30:50 »
I have fitted a Sat Nav holder to the handle bars and routed the Sat Nav lead to underseat compartment, where there is a ciggarette lighter wired direct to the battery, what I am looking for is a way of connecting the cig lighter so it only works when ignition is on,I have already used the number plate light wires for my pd-oiler,so was looking to connect it in a simmilar way,are there any wires near the underseat compartment that I can use to power the Sat Nav,I know there is a horn connector lead you can purchase but would prefer to keep all the connections to rear of the bike
thanks for any help

Your profile says you have a Yamaha, is this the bike you're asking about?

If you have a V-Strom, look at #3 at http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,1461.0.html

The switched 12V power wires listed there will also work for a low power device like the one you have.

The tail light connector just under the tank will give you a switched 12v, careful not to put too much load on it, you'd probably get away with plugging a satnav in to the ciglighter connected to it.

BTW http://www.v-strom.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=24607&start=60 to plug my own wares.

Just in case anyone gets confused about the "brake light connection", the connector in question is for the 2 wires to the rear brake light switch. The orange/green wire is live when the ignition is on and it feeds power to the switch. That is the wire used to trigger the relay. The white/black wire goes live when the brake pedal is depressed and it closes the switch, sending power from the orange/green wire to the white/black wire and on to the brake light.

If you have a 2013 Glee check under the fairing on the right hand side in case you already have a 12v socket. They are fitted to some Glees and are well hidden so its really easy to not know you have one.

Every Glee has a connector in the right side of the fairing meant for a low current device like a Sat Nav or phone. It would require a connector to plug into it like the one at http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Bike_ ... l#DL650-aa but it alone doesn't meet the minimum order.

I've read the cover on that fairing connector is actually the mating connector body half and the proper metal insides can be inserted.

What Greywolf said.
I was referring to the fact that the official Suzuki socket can be fitted to some Glees but not all owners spot the fact that they have one as its quite well hidden. And by 'some owners' I mean me as well :shy:
