Indicator connection - where is it?
« on: October 08, 2014, 14:21:38 »
Hi,

My indicators have got a loose connection somewhere and I'm fairly certain it's the connector to the main loom. The question is where that is. Is it under the tank or can I get to it from the side, and if so, which side?

It's bugging the daylights out of me, as one second they work then I hit a bump and they stop, and vice versa. I've checked the handlebar switch, bulbs etc. and the relay seems to be OK. I even looked in the Haynes manual but can't seem to find it. Lord, I suck at this DIY spannering!

Thanks

So, your indicators flash?

 :haha:

The large connection inside th left front fairing is probably what you're looking for. Have a wiggle.

There is a connector from the left handlebar switch to the main loom behind the radiator top shroud. Another possibility is the connector from the main loom to the flasher box in front of the battery. They would affect all blinkers. If a connector in the left side of the fairing is involved, one or both front blinkers would not light and the rear blinker selected would go on but not flash.

Mine don't flash at all with that connection broken, but the schematic agrees with you

I had a similar problem with this intermittent fault, the solution I found was to wd40 the indicator relays under the seat and I took apart the indicator switch, cleaned all the crud out out and applied wd40 there. No problems since and that was about 6 months ago

I think we are saying the same thing, any break, no flash. With neither side flashing, a break in the brown wire feeding the flasher or the light blue wire from the flasher feeding the selector switch is likely. A close check for other lights not working including the possibility some signal lights may be on but not flashing may lead to other possibilities.

I don't know how the flasher relay was eliminated as a problem so I won't speak to that other than to question the possibility of error there.

Greywolf - the bike came with an unused in its box new regulator! Cheating I know. Forgot to mention that in the OP, sorry!

And thanks everyone for the help, it's given me things to check I have to admit I hadn't!

Don't assume it's working though :)
