Foot pegs
« on: September 27, 2014, 15:05:05 »
Hi. can anybody advise me on the purpose of the bolts ( one long gearshift side & one short brake pedal side)
protruding from the underside ends of the front foot pegs on my 2011 DL650?
I can see no purpose apart from catching in trouser bottoms,I`m confused .
Thanks

As far as my motorcycle knowledge goes, they are called "hero blobs" (or something like that) and are there as scrape warning. It means that if you lean your motorcycle too much in the corner, "hero blobs" will be the first to scrape on the ground as a warning.

And extremely easy to get on the floor on a Vee!

I was quite disappointed (though secretly a bit chuffed at first  ) to find that I could scrape the pegs on moderate bends. I went on my favourite local run last weekend from Carlisle through Penrith, Hartside, Alston, Haydon Bridge, Hexham, Kielder, Canonbie & back to Carlisle which is about 130miles and came back with a flat spot on my LH peg and a scrape on the right. Unfortunately it does mean I'll never clear the chicken strips from the edges of my tyres, ahh well if I wanted a sports bike I would have bought one.

I believe the LH is longer to accommodate the stand/main stand etc which can lift the back wheel off the ground if they touch mid corner. The 'Hero blobs' make a good early warning system.

O.K. thanks for the info`.I hope I never lean over that far,it would be too much of an adventure for someone pushing 70,and hoping to be pushing 71.

No danger there mate, if there's grip.

Confidence comes with miles. It's all about rolling rubber, you'll see. You can't gain confidence through experience if you're not riding. :)

Fit foot peg lowering plates. You won't have to lean as far to get the sparks flying!
