Clutch bite on the Glee today
« on: October 04, 2014, 21:34:17 »
I had one concern on the new bike I rode today and that was the clutch bite, it started to engage only 5 mm from the handlebar grip. I assume this is just adjustment on the cable at the engine end because at the handle bar it was almost out of thread. Just a small detail.

It wasn't  properly set up I think. I've always had engagement near the end of lever travel leaving 5mm of play at the lever fully out (unless things have changed on newer bikes) ?

So how's it going so far then?

Needs adjusting. My bite has been fine from day one, nice and progressive, after 9,000 miles. It's certainly a lot further out than 5mm.

Besides the cable ends, there is an adjuster in the cable body where it looks like a snake swallowed a sausage link.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Mines fairly close to the bar but closer to the middle of travel.

I'm at 17.5k miles and going strong

Now there's a description that messes with your head!

Thanks for the replies, adjustment as suspected. Funnily, the salesman checked the oil level in the little window after I came back! (I think he was showing me where it was.......... )
