radiator fan
« on: October 04, 2014, 21:18:24 »
on my wee when its running and warmed up I have 3 bars on my temp gauge (about 3 miles to all 3 to light up)
when I get to my work yard 13 miles away .
I get off bike unlock gate push it though shut gate ride round the corner and I'm there.but if I stop after unlocking the gate and talk to the yard owner( say hi and good weather small chat) my radiator fan kicks in for about 20 seconds but my temp bar still shows 3 bars.
so is 3 bars the limit between fan on and very hot but not hot enough for the fan.
if the fan came on on the 4th bar I would be happy.
and yes water level is fine.
thanks
j

Never heard the fan running on my wee. 3 bars is normal running temperature.

Everything you described is normal including the fan coming on because the still bike doesn't have air moving through the radiator.

On the DL650 the fan turns on at ~98C and off at ~92C and shows three bars from 80C to 111C. That's why it is normal for the DL650 to show three bars but it can go to two at speed on cold days or cool rainy days.

Never saw the fan run on my glee in all the time I had it: Katie's will come on if I'm in town for even a few minutes & try to cook my left leg. Have you checked the rad for flies & stuff clogging it up?

If the engine is running after a ride and the bike is not moving for a while after that, it won't take long to activate the fan.
