pd oiler
« on: August 18, 2014, 17:30:13 »
I am mainly a weekend rider and only if weather is decent, but I just like the idea of my chain getting lubed when I ride it,now my question is,do you clean the chain before you install the pd oiler, getting all the old chain lube off
I ain't got a problem cleaning and lubing chain but I work long hours driving hgv and want as much free time as possible to ride my bike rather than cleaning chain

I am disappointed with mine. The bottle arrived with a broken nipple (which I repaired). I wrote to the supplier and didn't hear back. The unit has recently stopped working!

I don't think I cleaned mine: I remember thinking the existing lube would keep it good until the oiler had got to all of the chain.

No issues with mine.

Clean it with some chain cleaner spray and a rag, don't put much effort into it though. Just get the worst of it off so the new oil can get in where it needs to be.

I've had a PD Oiler for years now and it's great, used to do a lot of mileage and it's saved me days of my life because of not having to spend time cleaning and oiling the chain often. Now I just clean it every few months when it looks a bit manky.

Hugo, call them, they are a small business and they've always been good at customer service. Perhaps they missed an email or something? They give us forum discount so they know who we are so you might as well mention the forum if you think it will get you better help.

I'll second the good customer support.

I'd not bother going OTT on cleaning the chain, as if it's oil / grease etc then that'll be stopping the chain going rusty. The oil nicely protects the lower suspension linkages as well.
