OD means Overdrive, the 6th gear is an overdrive gear on the 1000 Strom. It's effectively an indication that you're in the highest gear.

It isn't a warning but information. 6th gear is an overdrive gear. The wheel is actually rotating at higher rpms that the crankshaft. It's mostly so you know you are in top gear and don't have any more shifting to do. If you are on a high speed highway and don't see it, you know you have a higher gear available.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s
