Sprocket carrier stud bolts
« on: April 03, 2014, 13:13:22 »
Does anyone know, with surety, what the thread pitch of the sprocket carrier stud bolts are? Want to order some, have measured them at home, but forgot to check the thread pitch. I'd think it's 1.5mm, but don't want to order unless I'm sure. I can measure them when I get home, but I wanted to order them now.

It's raining right now so I really don't feel like going out to the garage. Those are self locking hardened nuts, probably rated 10.9 or 12.9 so don't get ordinary ones. Also, the 60Nm spec in the manual is too high. Threads have been stripped. Use no more than 49Nm.

I couldn't leave it like that so went out in the rain. They are M10x1.25 Fuji type flanged lock nuts. I even took one off to put the thread gauge on the stud.

Thanks GW, if the nuts are 1.25 then the studs will match :thumb:

Of course. I used the gauge on the studs because they are longer than the nuts are thick, making for a surer reading.

Having lots of trouble finding suitable studs now, they are about 20x10x15mm the 10 part being the unthreaded bit. I'd take anything that got the 20x10 bits and as long as the 15mm part is not much longer than 20mm then I'd work. It's not something one can buy off Suzuki AFAIK.

I never heard of anybody needing to replace the studs. Cleaning the threads up with a die is about as extreme a need as I've seen. What is wrong with them? They are not available separately from Suzuki. They come as part of the rear sprocket drum only, part #64610-35F10

I sent the carrier in to get shot blasted, they were supposed to tape up the stud bolts, but they didn't tape anything up. The threads are very rough so I wanted to replace them rather than trying to clean them up and having issues.
