ugly v strom 1000
« on: March 07, 2014, 06:52:19 »
I popped to my local Suzuki dealers yesterday to view the New 1000. One thing that struck me was how narrow it is and I must say I found the front quite ugly and lacking something the clocks seemed to have been an after thought reminded me of a naked bike not a faired bike. Wtf under the clocks is a charging point but this is one of the old type not usb and this also seems to be an after thought. I must say parked next to my 650 I must say mine looked much more of a bike. Also the £2000 Price Tag for the accessories package seems a bit steep over £12000 for a ugly bike with panniers don't think so!!!!

Don't park your Glee next to stuff, it's not fair on them.

Why?

I had to remove my reference to your charge point comment so I didn't look like I was talking to a ghost.

Our local dealer has sold 6 so far so some people must have different views. Speaking to one of the fitters who has had one out and he said its miles better than the 650 which you would expect anyway.you pay you money and make you choice.

New bikes will always sell, some people just want the newest thing, purely because it's the newest thing. I know folk like that. Once other riders start turning up to bike meets on them they trade theirs in, hence the glut of nearly new bikes with 800 miles on them in showrooms at nearly new prices shortly after launch.

Once the 'newest thing' er... thing settles down we'll see better how it's fairing in the market. I wish it well, not too well though because I'd like to pick a pre-reg up for £6k in a couple of years if it's any good to ride. :)

See you have a zx6 I had a new zx6 in 97 which I put 48k on was a brilliant bike. The wife worked 17 years for a main dealer for Suzuki , yamaha , kawasaki , KTM , Ducati. So we used to get to ride a very wide range of bikes but all our bikes get plenty of miles on them. And can't see you getting pre reg for 6k in a couple of years they have no where near that kind of profit in them.

I didn't say they'd be making a profit. ;)

Yeah, the zx6 is great, last of the real all-round sportsbikes, the first 636. The next model on went all upside down forks and high pegs and ruined everything.

I've toured Scotland (The Highlands) in February on it and done trackdays, and everything in between. IOM (including balls out runs of the mountain section), Europe, Welsh National Rally in 2011. I can't find a bike that'd do all that, well, in today's line up.

Got a test ride on the new 1000 today, felt very light and powerful, one thing that annoyed me though was the pegs digging into my legs when stopped, seems they are positioned very badly, anyone else found this problem?

Shit - that's the first thing I've read that seriously troubles me. Being a relative short-arse if the pegs were badly positioned for the balance-point at a standstill, it could make all the difference to its ridability to me.

Ergonomics. More important to me than loads of other factors most folk sweat over like MPG, 0-60, looks etc.

It's also the first thing I check in a potential new car is the driver and passenger seats and how firm they are, how supportive on my back!

Bobstar - I had a look at the one in Ken's the day they had one in, but can't remember noticing any ergonomic issues now that I think about it - I was more focussed on sheer seat height (it had the 'normal' size seat on). You're right! Better get doon there today!  :thumb:

First time I've seen it with the extras on think it looks good. There was a really smart grey DL1000 parked outside kens when I went down about 1ish. I did a deal with them to get the extras on for cost and free fitting if it stays in showroom 3weeks so there putting it on a plinth so no one can climb on it. :)

Anyone bought one on Suzuki PCP? I'm wondering what they say the GFV is.

Seen on the Suzuki site they do finance quotes:

https://www.Suzuki-gb.co.uk/motorcycles ... -1000-abs/

and it has the GFV at around £5500 after two years, so I'd guess they think you'll get a bit more than £6000 on a trade in. And just over £5000 after three years GFV.

£3000 after 2 years and £2700 after 3 years for the Glee.
