Tax disc holder
« on: March 18, 2014, 19:27:41 »
Browsing a well known online book and general stuff seller they have recommended I buy a thing to hold my tax disc as this is a new product  lol

Now, while I may have to buy the tax disc there is no way I'm buying a new holder when they'll they be getting rid of the 60-quid beer mat in a few months. Duct tape will save me.

However, there must be thousands of the things in M&P and Wemoto the likes. I think there will be a rise in using the space for a bit of fun (tax paid by Guinness etc.) but no one will actually buy one unless restoring a classic in mega fine detail. Or will they??

Can the collective think of a use for say 500 tax disc holders in 2015 as I think the price may have dropped by then?

Andy

My local council offers free parking to residents in the hope we will shop and spend cash in the area.
Maybe, as it fits, I'll put the permit in the empty tax disc holder.

Although .....
I got a parking ticket for parking in a Monday to Thursday bay. It was a Friday (well how the hell do pensioners know what day it is? ) So since then I do not buy anything in Dovercourt  and try to avoid the  Tendring area.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

It would leave a handy space for Mrs Diver to put sheep stickers on during an ST event.

Can't wait to get rid of the tax disk & holder, it's archaic.

Me too, might even take it off now and see if I get any grief, I'm guessing folk will be less interested now they're binning them.

With my luck I'll get ticketed for it if I removed it now, probably the day before the change too.

Good point!

I think I'll keep my holder on the bike, it doesn't cause any problems. I might keep an emergency tenner in there - It'll need a large red arrow with 'emergency tenner' on mounted somewhere on the bike to remind me though  What could possibly go wrong?

I think you're right AndyM, there's going to be lots of these floating around...remember the AOL data disks being ahnded out in every magazine and newspaper, posted through every door in the 90's? Millions of the buggers, where did they all end up? They were distributed planet-wide, not just in the UK like our tax-holders.
Wasn't there was an episode of Futurama where the AOL disks eventually  crashed into the Earth having being dumped in space and agglomerated into an asteroid! (I might be misremembering that a bit).

Hmmm, the back of my holder is s/steel, and with a bit of snipping and bending would make a decent bracket for my heat-controller.

On a large scale, though...apart from being turned into works of art (or biker's coasters??) they'll be excellent land-fill :GRR:

For the most part the metal and plastic ones can be recycled. If you bought a genuine carbon one then you're a sucker :neen:

Export them to countries that still need them and redress our lousy balance of payments. If you put a nice sticker on first you'll get tax credits for beneficiation ....

can't wait for the disc to be gone.
Just had to pay £7 for a replacement disc and buy a new holder after mine disappeared.

Don't you scan and copy it. I use one of those cheap, sticky things on the inside of the screen as well. If some snot wants to nick it, may as well make it easy. Always carry the real one in my wallet though. If Mr Policeman wants to be pernickety he could do (could have done) me, but I don't think the court would uphold that.
Anyway the scanned one looks good.
