New dry clock

Took Suzy to the dealer today to have her clock replaced under warranty after the water got in.

Wow, I thought they'd alter it somehow to match the mileage of the actual engine. Is that not illegal?

I think it would only be illegal if you tried to mislead (con) someone that the mileage was from new.

Technically not, if you then tried to sell it as a bike with 14miles on the clock that is the point it becomes illegal.  You need to state the correct mileage and generally expect questions as to why it does not match the bike.

The clock holds the mileage, not the bikes ECU, I have always thought it odd, I expected the ECU to hold the info but it never has.

It wouldn't bother me if buying, as long as the old clock mileage was recorded by the dealer prior to removal.

Usually they put a sticker with mileage prior to clock replacement under the seat. They did it on an America blokes bike as the early vees won't display mileage over 199,999 miles.

Being a police officer it would be a really stupid move on my part to try and pull that off.

I made the dealer write in the service book that the clock was changed (with the original mileage) and stamp It, I don't think there is a sticker but have not looked.


But if I sell it stating that it only has 14 miles on the clock ......... Technically I am telling the truth

Exactly what I did.

The mechanic showed me my old clocks.It's a poor design, easy for water to ingress. The mechanic put a bead of sealant on my new clocks as a precaution. It it wasn't under warranty I'd have done the same myself. Suzuki asked for mine to be sent to them to look at.

I don't want to start a frenzy, because I don't know if all bikes are affected (same design) but  I hope they offer a recall before they start failing out of warranty for other owners.

I've ridden mine through torrential rain for hundreds of miles without any ingress to date.

hi , mines booked in for new top and bottom cases and the tech said he will just change the internals over ???  and I will keep the orginal mileage etc .how long did it take to do the swap over at the dealer
what's it like to remove the whole unit as I like the idea of the sealant and if they don't do it on the new cases then I will do it

Don't think my bike has seen rain yet but the clocks still have moisture behind them  

Only noticed this last week when I pulled the bike out the shed for the first time this year. We'll see what the dealer says when I take it in for it's 4k service soon.

Hi Zippy,
I dropped her off at half 9 this morning, went for a walk as he said the mechanic had to finish a job from the weekend, at half 11 I received a phone call to say it was ready.

He had the new clock already and was told that all that happened was that sealant was used to waterproof it.
I think it was easier to change the clock as personally speaking (not as an expert) you don't know what happens after the water has ingressed and whether that will affect the unit at a later date.
