tyre changing revelation

right
those of you that know me know I'm not a mug, or silly
and when someone comes up with a cheat I'm generally sceptical
and I'm sure some here have tried already
but for those who havent I wanted to share my revelation

THE CABLE TIE METHOD WORKS SO WELL YOU wouldn't BELIEVE IT !!!!!!!!

IF YOU SEARCH ZIP TIE METHOD ETC ON YOU TUBE there's LOADS OF EXAMPLES

my new obsession with track days has forced me back into changing my own tyres after many years,
not my favourite passtime and usually very time consuming
and often resulting in damage to powder coating regardless of rim protectors  :)
so
when I saw the trick on you tube I had to try it
my only reservation (any comments invited) was that especially with wide rears there may be a chance of damage to carcass structure, I searched and couldn't find any examples of this or even comments alluding to it being a possibility
so I guessed I was being paranoid and decided to try
thought do the hard one first
so I went for the wide rear on the daytona
being honest I wasn't confident and took a lot of time watching at every stage
and with this I did need to use a small tyre spoon ( yes one)
to get the last bit over rim
so
a couple of days later I tried the front
no levers and half an hour start to finish max removing old one and fitting new one
really couldn't believe how easy it was
and how many sore knuckles etc I could have avoided over the years
any toolstation or screwfix has heavy duty cable ties and I use 6 per tyre
with no risk to rims and such an easy job
I've even ended up buying a balancer now, as I can't imagine ever taking tyres to a garage anymore
it was that easy
for anyone in doubt
try it on a front first it makes it so easy
and if anyone wants a hand or instructions your welcome to drop in
ill show you how
just bring cake n you can make the tea  lol  lol  lol

all those years of toil wasted eh :angry-tappingfoot:

Well done! This may tempt me to change my own when the time comes. Good to know it works! :)

I've never had a problem getting the old tyre off and new one on. I've never managed to seat the bead. With all the tools you have, I'll assume you have a compressor.

my compressor only baby one for on bike really
just drove wheels to garage n free air line seated beads
if needed taking valve inner out will allow air in quicker to seat bead
then put it in n fill as normal
bigger compressor ? thatll come soon :)
seriously though it just saved so much time and effort

Just looked it up on youtube. I'll race you taking one off with levers and tyre soap. :thumb:

You must have no soul. Do you not know how precious tie wraps are?

I do agree with the feeling of well being though. :)
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Alternatively get some cheap ratchet straps? :)

The metal assemblies could damage the tyre at the tension needed to make straps work.

Put something in between to prevent damage? If it takes that much force how does a humble cable tie stand a chance?

Have you ever tried to snap a big cable tie?

youd never get ratchet straps through past the bead
and yes, hd cable ties are just the job
the stiffness means they thread through under the bead easily
and the heavy duty ones are more than strong enough paul

and if you like Your on jacko :-)
I like a challenge  :)
