What's the cog above the crank? Does it drive the balancer?

The Suzuki 90 degree V twins don't have balancer shafts. Not required as in near perfect balance.

First stage of the clever and unique mix of gear and chain that takes the drive up to the camshafts. That gear is on the end of a shaft directly above the crank and between the cylinders. Has a sprocket on each end for front and rear cylinder cam chains.

Expensive to have that extra shaft but keeps engine width down as saves the sprockets being on the crank (like the 650). And cam chain life should be better because they are much shorter.

Ahh, makes perfect sense now, thanks. I did consider a drive for the top end but it seemed to be sited too high for that. Live a day - learn something new. :)

The 'hybrid' cam drive system on the 1000 is quite impressive, I'm pleased they've kept it for the new one.

I took the Vee for a ride today and all I can say is wow!

OK, so that's not all I'll say, the Clutch modification by John Sharealike has transformed the bike beyond recognition, it now reminds me what I loved about my previous DL1000's. It pulls like a train in every gear and is smoother than a really smooth thing.

Right, now what do do with it

Isn't it about time for a fatrat's competition time.....with prizes?

If you want a hand with organising your 'V-Stroms Through The Ages' exhibition in that workshop, well [tweaks bow-tie selfconsciously] I'm your man.

Seriously, good work Andy  , and John for that last video ( I think I finally comprehend what the issue is now :thumb: )
