Petrol consumption for K2 1000
« on: October 13, 2013, 13:41:16 »
Afternoon Gents...I bought a K2 1000 and have had it laid it for about 12 months, brought it out in August fully serviced and raring to go. I have just been up to Skye with it and was surprised to find that I wasn't getting anymore than 160-165 miles from a full tank. Is this right..doesn't sound very far for a tourer...what does everyone else expect from a full tank???? Sean   :angry-tappingfoot:

Sean
When you say "to the tank" you mean when the reserve start to flash or until you have no fuel left in the tank?

Some 1000 owners seem to get over 50mpg which can be as many as 200 or more miles per tank. I tend to get around 150-160 maximum per tank which works out at around 43mpg. So your figure is not unusual. My Vee definitely runs rich which probably accounts for the poor mpg and I hope to get it re-tuned over the winter to improve things. If it bothers you find a dealer with a Yoshimura R-421 fuel injection adjusting box (sometimes called a Yoshi box) to adjust the fueling for you which should improve things.

You can take it down to when the last block starts flashing along with the pump icon. Then you should have 3 litres remaining. The pump icon flashing and solid last bar indicates 4.5 litres remaining.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Bottom bar and petrol symbol flashing indicates 3ltrs remaining.

I average around 50mpg (uk)

if you say 45mpg/4.5ltrs = 10miles/ltr

so

3ltrs left means total fuel range = 30miles from the moment the Fuel symbol and Bottom bar start flashing.

I always say max 20miles to give some margin for higher fuel consumption and to leave some fuel around the fuel pump to cool it. And tend to only run it in the reserve when I'm less than 5 miles from getting home or I'm already looking/planning on a fuel stop.
When the bottom fuel bar becomes the only one lit I start looking for the next place to fuel if out on a ride.
