Anybody around Aberdeen with a Glee
« on: August 22, 2013, 18:48:29 »
Hi Folks

Still haven't managed to sell my Mk2 CBF1000. So still pondering. I have been given offered a good trade in price against a new Crossrunner but the new price is pretty heavy (£9200).

Don't want to go to my local Suzuki dealer if I can help it.

Is there anybody in or around Aberdeen with a Glee that I could see/sit on to get an idea what they are like.

Cheers

John S

Hello Soapy

I don't have a Glee but there is / was a demonstrator at Shirlaws although I see you don't want to visit your local dealer. My intention is, sooner rather than later, have a ride on the demonstrator as I've never ridden a VStrom. Their sale price is pretty much OK but won't do 0% whereas Cupar Bikes, who won't have a demonstrator on their fleet until September, will offer 0%. If Shirlaws happens to be your local dealer have you had a problem with them ?

I'd understand not going to Shirlaws...not the most wonderful of dealers. I would far rather travel to Cupar or the bike and the servicing, a much better is deal available on both.

I think I've only seen one orange & one white Glee in Aberdeen so far. See the odd Wee fairly regularly & of course, I have my Vee....

Well I've bitten the bullet and booked a ride on the Glee demo at Shirlaws tomorrow at 1pm. Looking forward to it.

If the Test ride goes well tomorrow and it comes to negotiations. What extras should I get fitted.
I'm thinking:-

Centre Stand
Side Pannier Rails (I already own 2x GIVI E360 Monokey boxes)
Bash Plate (the oil filter looks very exposed)

Hi Dog

Yes I took the Demo for a 50 mile run using both the dual carriageway and A roads. I was very impressed. Nice riding position and handles really well. Bit of a come down on power, but I'm not buying it for that. Two minor issues. When I was at 75/80 mph there was quite a bit of turbulence around my head. But if I lowered my head a couple of inches it made a huge difference (going to lift the screen to highest position). Also I have short legs and have opted to buy the shorter seat. Hopefully that won't affect the comfort too much.

Wanted the Orange one in the showroom but I believe you bought that one. They don't do them anymore so I've opted for Grey with centre stand, hand guards, lower seat, sump guard and side pannier rails for my Givi boxes. Cheers John S

Nice to hear another one is joining the Glee ownership band.  :)

You might find the screen in the lower position works best for turbulence / noise, but with so many variables best get some miles on in the varying combinations.

When you pick your new bike up, make sure they give you all the bits they removed to fit the replacements  :thumb:

Yes, dealers are buggers for trying to keep hold of original bits, fasteners etc. They probably come in handy for use on other bikes, but they're not there's they're yours, you should be getting them back. For example: The Suzuki centrestand is supplied with a much longer hero blob for the left footpeg, they may try to retain the original, ask for it if they do, it's yours.

Regarding the buffeting, just dropping your head doesn't just affect the relationship with the screen, think about the mirrors too, just raising the screen alone doesn't make much difference, fitting Aprillia Tuono mirrors will though. Do a search on here and watch the results page light up.

Thanks for the link, I think I might buy a set at that price anyway.

That's a bit of a shock, I thought they'd have the bike ready for collection some time this week. I don't have a delivery date for mine yet but was certainly expecting this coming week although I have to take my Explorer up there for some work on the 13th and that could work out OK.

Collected new bike in Aberdeen this morning, a nice surprise. A fine run home via Banchory, Aboyne, Ballater, Braemar and Blairgowrie. Shame about the strong wind and temperature drop which spoiled what would otherwise have been a great run on some of the best roads in Britain. That's about 105 miles on the clock now so looking forward to easing it in gently and gradually. Pretty sure there is a Deauville for sale now.
