New Straight Handlebars - Advice?
« on: December 03, 2012, 12:07:17 »
I often get RSI due to the angle of the bars.  This year it has become unbearable and the bandages get soggy in this weather....It's caused by the sweep back on the bars making my wrist sit at an angle.

I am going to change for straight bars, or at least riser bars with no sweepback/angle on them.

Anyone experience of this?  Things I should avoid/lookout for?  I don't want to do any cable lengthening or anything complicated.  I need to know the bar diameter please?

Something like this?  http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo/585595/Bars-And-Footrests/Universal-bars/Renthal

Thanks.

I put Renthals on mine, only snag is you can't quite get full lock without the hand guards touching the front fairing, removed them for MOT and alls fine  :thumb:

Mine do that anyway....  Hadn't thought about that as being an issue with straight bars though.... mmmmmm.

I bought risers and straight moto x bars. They perfect. As for the stock lean back bars they just terrible. I ditched them after first off road trip trying to stand with them no thanks.
I then used 20 mm hight risers to bring them up to my standing hight. Also the bars are thicker bigger diameter bar in the. Enter for added strength.
Sorry still struggling to upload pics.

They're expensive but Jota bars might be an answer: http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/jota-bars

I bought some 8mm ID, 13mm OD rubber fuel hose and used that, a couple of flat washers and an M6 nut to replace the stock rubbers on the stock bar ends. That makes them small enough to fit in Renthal handlebars with a 14mm ID. I can take pictures if you don't get what I mean.

If you get a minute or several to do that that woudl be gerate - thanks !!

I have some flatter renthal bars to fit as I get pins an needles after 20 miles or so as I'm an ex rugby player so very wide at the shoulders so making my wrists go at a funny angle with the standard swept back bars.

Had the same issue, the standard bars had too much pull back for me. I replaced them with some Renthal 811 bars that are slightly wider, about an inch higher and with less pull back. They are lovely, but you need to have the brace on else they flex. I'll get you some pics tonight, hopefully I'll remember, else just PM me to remind me.

The bar end weights on my Wee are held one by rubber expanding thingumajigs - would be no problem.

Photo for you, note that the stepped spacer is the other way around than it would normally be for stock handguards. It works this way with my Polisport Sharp handguards. I can't remember why I made the rubber pipe two piece, maybe there wasn't a good reason for it anyway.
