Are they all the same pads for a DL1000 and 650?
Yes.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

I normally find most top brands are OK and just avoid cheap tat.

SBS are very good, they are recommended by PFM who make the most wonderful brake discs (Hizzy used to use PFM Discs on some of his IOM bikes)

So after an hour this afternoon I have full new set of EBC pads. And it was just as well as the from left pads have nearly gone to ZERO.

The left side was slightly better:

The rear was in the best condition but as I was replacing front I thought I will do the rear too.

It was a good thing that I have the retracting tool for brake callipers that I bought ages ago when changing pads on my rusty Honda accord.

And I had no problem with pins - they came out nice and easy. When putting things back together I used lots of copper grease.

I had to take her for a ride. Few corners and crossroads and the difference is huge!!!  I did not realise hid bad my brakes were. I wonder how much more improvement would the braided lines would make. And new DOT4.

The old pads were

Front - TOKICO

Rear - NISIN

Both made out of lard hahaha

...The stock pads on my '12 Glee feel much the same as as the EBCs on my old Wee.

Hmmm... Wondering if HH pads would be any improvement on an L2 then?

Haven't been happy with my brakes (especially 2 up) since I took out a tiger xc. I don't want to go down the route of braided cables etc at the mo yet though...

been checking up online and using the owners manual and I feel confident I can do my pad change when they arrive. Just a quick question though. Some people recommend using red rubber grease after cleaning around the pistons just to help the seals. Do you blokes do that when servicing your calipers or just clean the calipers with soapy water and a tooth brush and leave it ?
I'm sane, honestly. . . I got a certificate to prove it!

I use brake cleaner and a toothbrush on the pistons and other components (wire wool on the pins etc.)and then use a cotton bud to apply some ACF50 to the pistons then push them back in.. Folk say that ACF50 is detrimental to the seals but I've been doing it for years with no ill affects, keeping the brakes serviceable and in good condition through many winters.. Even on the notoriously finicky Tokico six pots on my zx6.. Red rubber grease on the pistons will protect them too..

Changing pads is a maintenance job, it's fairly simple and in no way beyond even the most inexperienced home mechanic. Just take your time and enjoy it, really. There's nothing more satisfying than keeping your bike in serviceable condition by your own hand..

feeling like a proper man again now. Managed to clean and change my rear brake pad set . wasn't all that hard truth be told. The old ones were caked on the back with copper grease from the dealer so I copied that. Everything seems to be working great

Edit: changed the front ones too after dinner. Even easier than the back one. Removed the lil pin, all just came out easy. Cleaned and placed the sintered hh inside  just like back. Looking forward to trying them out

This is a quote by sven previously in this thread.

"FA229HH & FA231HH are the fronts"

As both are listed as DL1000 front pads,
what is the difference in the two part numbers?

OK - Brain fade, forget the above.  :obscene-drinkingchug:

I think I'll get HH pads fitted at my running in service, would like a little more initial feel from the brakes.

I have ebc hh sintered pads all round. they work great and give me a super feel on the brakes. I have abs though so locking isn't a problem. some go for hh sintered front and ebc organic back which tend to give a little less harsh braking as some would say.

whatever ones you get, most tend to go for ebc pads
