New Ignition Barrel Lock Needed Urgently
« on: May 02, 2013, 09:02:08 »
My barrel is sticking something chronic and after a year of lubing it now barely comes off the steering lock position.  I suspect I might get one or two more starts of the bike before it says adieu.

Any idea from where I can get a spare?  I just need the little 8 wafer barrel thing as per this post:  http://www.stromtrooper.com/maintenance-how/66706-sticky-ignition-lock-fix-w-pics.html

Strommer,

Hopefully not teaching you to suck eggs:

1. Have you tried changing the key for your 2nd Spare?

2. I had a similar problem with mine and found that if I pulled down on the key toward me then it would work ( I think this is a common thing with Suzuki ignition barrels)

Sometimes the key does wear down quicker than the barrel.

regards
Al

Fair points but it's a "Yes - done that. "  To both I'm afraid.  In fact I rotate my keys annually.

My k5 has started to do the same thing, but I find if I turn it whilst holding the key at a slight angle it works fine. I'm getting so much going wrong with my bike I think it may have to go! shame because it's been a proper work horse, stored outside day and night and used as a commuter 12mths of the year.

Take the complete unit to a good locksmith and they will repair it . The key and wafers will be worn and they have a few options to get it working correctly ..

As locky says  :thumb:

You can send the barrel as it is to a company called Bolton Lock Company, they specialise in Automotive locks.
They will cut a key on an automatic machine if you have the key number, once cut they then fit new wafers, it is then just like it was from the factory and they will also give you the key, a little far away but they do receive a lot of work by post, the only problem I ever had was when bosses son took over  :teasing-knob: even though they mainly do work on car locks they also do motorbikes.

Locksmith idea is a good 'one.  Would they have a straight replacement?  Can't be without the bike for too long.

I've squeezed half a tube of copper grease down there and that has helped, but only a bit.

How you getting on with this strommer? Locky and skinny ideas sound good, give that Bolton company a ring?

Maybe see if someone local to you , and mobile, could sort you out http://www.autolocksmithealing.co.uk/em ... th-ealing/

Give em a ring, pick their brains, if they don't fancy it they might put you onto someone?

No they won't have a straight replacement , you'll need to post it to them but check turnaround time first .
