Up and back Bar Risers
« on: April 11, 2013, 13:13:45 »
I'm really starting to enjoy the Ginger Glee (2013 V-Strom DL650 for the search engines benefit), especially since getting all the various bits fitted/sorted. Now I have done a few hundred miles I have order the peg lowering kit and now I'm looking at Bar Rises. On the Tiger I have up and back risers, are they available for the Glee and has anyone fitted them?

Mitch on here got some sw motech risers bout 20mm if I recall, they are just up but sorted the back bit by just tilting the bars back slightly. He'll be along with more info soon I'm sure :)

My research is returning conflicting information, some say that the brake line is a show stopper and some say it isn't

a modest rise (1") and minimum back should not require a brake line change. It will require some rerouting or removal from the clamp.
I have Rox risers, 1 1/2" up and about the same back. I needed a new brake line.
Others have used Rox risers without changing the brake line. I do not think they went back as far or at the same angle I did.
To me. the benefit of having the bars just where I want/need to be comfy was worth the cost and aggravation of dealing with the brake line.

20mm rise seems the safe bet without any other modification. I think someone on here actually tried a 30mm rise ( not sure which year of bike), this might just be possible but would leave things extremely tight. I chickened out and played safe. I'm 6 ft 4 and although they are only 20mm they do stop the shoulders from rounding too much and aching.

I took a punt and ordered the SW Motech 30mm Risers, 10 minutes to fit and no issues with tight cables or lines  :thumb:
