Haynes Manuals
« on: March 24, 2013, 20:36:34 »
Was thinking about getting a Haynes manual for my 2012 V-Strom 650 but the only Haynes manuals Haynes is selling are for the 08 version. Anyone else really want a 2012 version? Their manuals are great!

I've only seen Haynes manuals for the 2002-2003 Vee. Are you sure?
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Yeah, they say there's not enough demand for the Vstrom manuals but I would have thought Vstrom owners would be more inclined to buy and use a service manual than a brand new GSXR owner and they churn those out..

They could even add the Glee to the current Gladius manual..

Haynes manuals are written by people taking the bike apart and putting it back together, kind of re-engineering the build. They can't take information from the factory manuals for example due to copyright laws. It would be very unusual, therefore, to have a Haynes manual for a new bike unless it was basically unchanged from earlier models.

I'd like to own one for my K6 Vee but they only list the K4 on the TL1000 book, not sure if its worth picking one up.

http://www.haynes.com/products/productID/424 says it covers up to 2004 but I don't believe it handles the changes that occurred in 2004. The site does not show any DL650 manual.

Go for it if you think it will help. However, I have mostly gone off Haynes manuals in recent years. Black and white pictures that are low quality and always seem to miss the important bit you are specifically looking for. I have found this forum, the user manual and the service manual, along with the information available on YouTube to be vastly superior to a Haynes manual.

Each to their own however. Use what works for you.

The Haynes manual for the Vee also covers the TL1000S and R bikes as well and only goes up to 2004 as has been pointed out. It is quite useful and if used with the official Suzuki manual which you can download and other online stuff, will enable you to carry out pretty much anything you'd ever need to do on the bike. You can often buy them on Ebay for a few quid and save a bit as well.

Got the genuine Suzuki manual. £70 but well worth it! Haynes did say they are working on a 2012 one.
