Weird Wiring
« on: April 16, 2013, 13:50:46 »
In an effort to diagnose my ongoing FI errors (which I won't go into here), I've had the Port side panel off to access the loom at that point.  Other than accidentally sllcing through three wires when removing the insulating tape... :angry-tappingfoot:   it was all fine in there- despite being a tiny bit wet.

Two things though look awry (to me anyway) in the pics attached.  These may be related to an alarm that was removed some tome ago, but I don't know.  Thoughts solicited....

In this pic (1) there is a black wire spliced off an orange/green wire.   The latter goes to the diagnostic plug shown, the black goes back into the loom up front.  Now I thought the orange was live....so what is a black wire doing being spliced to this?

In this pic (2) there is a splice between black and black and white wires.  The concern is that one of these goes nowhere and is taped off.  Could this have been where the alarm was earthed?   Is this OK?

There is no accounting for the colors of added wires. Somebody who is adding wiring may choose any color. The orange/green wire is hot on the bike. The question is where the wire attached to it, regardless of color, is going. The wire attached the the black/white wire is an earth for something that was added and is now gone.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Yep, it looks like a DIY job, although not a bodge. Could have been for a 'trigger' for spotlights or heated clothing or a Sat Nav or... The list goes on.
It's pronounced 'twenty-one-twelve'

I may cut the black one going into the the loom (pic 1) and see if anything happens....though the FI errors have stopped for now...bet they come back though.....

pretty silly way to wire up a Sat Nav etc if there is a dedicated socket at the front of the bike for heated grips specifically made by Suzuki. Could just have bodged it that way... In any case  , as greywolf says , it's more of a matter of what the wires are going to and coming from and how they fit into the OEM  loom.
