Lean running with exhaust and filter .
« on: February 09, 2013, 09:50:17 »
My 2011 Wee came with a GPR exhaust system that will be going on , when the previous owner had it fitted he noticed a midrange improvement .
I also have a BMC air filter that I might fit but will it make it run to lean with both of them fitted ??

I've just fitted a GPR exhaust this morning to my Wee. It already has a K&N air filter fitted.
Hadn't thought too much about this.
Also just had a first run with it on & rather like it without any baffles in, so that'll make matters worse!
I'd be interested in anyone's views on this as well.

Just thought, juvecu's got a scorpion can and a K&N filter fitted. Don't think he's had any problems & he's done quite high mileage.

I think Suzuki build in quite a wide range of tolerance on the stock ECU, almost expecting people to change the can & air filter. It's highly unlikely to run dangerously lean, especially with a lambda sensor.

Interesting thread.

I've a Devil road exhaust and last year fitted a K&N as well.  Since fitting it I'm sure the bike seems to run richer, mpg is still in the 50's, but notice some soot around the end of the exhaust. Can the ECU be remapped?

I had a GPR fitted to my last Wee and didn't notice any mixture problems, £40 - £50 would get you a session on a Yoshi Box.

Yes, a 'Yoshi box' can tweak the fuelling with excellent results. Be careful not to mistake a little oil burning for richness.

On my K5 I had just a slip on end can with the BMC filter and had no problems , much the same setup as Juvecu . But with the new Wee I've fitted a GPR end can and pipework thus getting rid of the cat . Less restrictive than on the K5 Wee ...

Probably a case of try it and see - check the spark plug condition/colours before and after a run? Better still, put at least one new plug in (that's easiest to reach) and keep checking it. If there's anything too far out of course, you'll notice it in the running, or your pipes melting!
