Engine Oil Recommendations
«

Hi All,
The wee Owner's Manual recommends 10W-40 (SAE) for engine oil, but I wondered if anyone had any recommendations re: Manufacturer/Brand?
What do you use in your engine?

Oil brand is not very important. As long as it is the right viscosity for the ambient temperature and not marked energy conserving, it will do fine. Now we'll see everybody mention what they use and we'll learn nothing. I hate oil threads.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Yes on every bike forum there's threads about oils that seem to prove nothing ! Some threads seem to go on and on and on . Just get oil that's the right spec .

Sorry to be a bore, I just don't want to make a stupid mistake with my new bike if it could have been avoided by asking a simple question. I
could
just go to the local Suzuki dealer but they will probably charge a premium and with all the flooding around here I would rather not risk it right now.
I realise this is tedious but it is useful for a newbie like me to get an idea of what people like to use, and (more importantly) what they do not (as with my question about Chain Lube).

Stick to branded oil if you prefer , Motul , Castrol , etc
I'm a bit fussy about oil filters , I like to use Filtrex or K&N .

Thanks for this.
My apologies, what I should have done before posting was to do as I have just done and search the forum for a similar posting. I have all I need from the posting by beep in 2010.

Ha no worries , if you don't ask you'll never know . I think most folk will just choose a brand they like and just stick to it . I've used Motul for years because the brand/can looks good but its probably no different to other brands . If you was to read all the oil threads you'd be even more confused what to get .
If you want a good priced oil go for the Halfords own 10/40 semi synth .

The "10" part you can play with, the "40" part you
should
stick with as "40s" have good shear strength that other oils don't have. That said Juvecu runs a "50" with no issues.
