Givi Pannier Rail Fitting
« on: September 30, 2013, 19:27:09 »
Hi All,

Fitted (ish) my Givi PL532 Pannier Rails this evening. For whatever reason, I could not get the rear side of the carrier plate flush with the subframe. There is about an inch of gap. I could not get any photos because it went dark, but will try to do so soon... I tried loosening up the front bolts and try lock it down but couldn't. Has anybody else faced this problem??? Any ideas much appreciated.

Cheers,

Kris

I had the same problem with mine though perhaps not as extreme as your description. I sorted it by just fitting all bolts loosely at first and going around tightening each one a little at a time. It sounds like you've already tried this so could the frames have been slightly bent in transit?

Thanks for the reply JRS81.. Tried that.. The frame was bought used... My right footrest is bent because a small accident... That might cause a problem. Worst case, I think is take a hammer to it or get a spacer made for that gap and put a longer bolt in... A point to note  though, I tried tightening the bolts without the carrier plate, and I was able to get it flush.. It seems more like a problem with the carrier plate.

Did it not come with spacers of some sort? Mine had two spacers that fit under the rack. They were about an inch in diameter and probably a little over 5mm thick if I remember rightly...

No, no spacers, which I knew of when I bought it... I can get any spacers made by a kind supplier at work... I think I will give it a go with a hammer or a large pipe wrench to bend it a bit into shape and see what happens.. Cheers for the info on the thickness of the spacer JRS81... Had a bit of ambiguity on the thickness. I did put 2 x 2.5mm thick washers in to compensate for that...

Part number 11 in the instructions here, although they are a lot flatter than the illustration.

Fixed... Missed the washers up front. Put them in and everything went down nice and easy...
