ECU restrictor problem
« on: April 08, 2012, 01:03:16 »
Just put a deposit on a 2009 black vstrom  :occasion-balloons: (I'll introduce myself when I get the bike and take a few pics) and will be picking her up when the banks open and I can pay the man.

Now as I've just passed my test and want to keep this whole thing nice and legal (never give the government or insurance companies a chance to get you!), so I need to get this beauty restricted. Now I don't want to have the old style restriction put in, as I want to avoid messing with the internals until its necessary, so I need to get myself a restricted ECU.

But the price of some of these is ridiculous(and I've spent every penny I have and some on the bike)! So 2nd hand seems a good option. Problem is there are only 2 on ebay.  One for a k6 and the other for a k7 and they are still  more expensive than I expected. Anyway to know if these will work, does it have to be a k9 model?

Any help would be massively appreciated!

K7 and K9 650s use the same 32 bit ECU. K6s and earlier use a 16 bit ECU.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Thanks for the info.

So there is no slight difference between a 2007/2009 that would mean a need for a slightly differently programed ECU?

The the part numbers are identical and the programming is included in the part.

You can see the difference by looking at the connector. The old ones have one big connector, the new ones (like yours) have two smaller connectors. Make sure that it will fit before you buy it, it's too much hassle to have to return it.
