FI Errors - MOT Fail?
« on: April 10, 2012, 19:40:54 »
On telly yesterday some mot block was saying that (with cars) an electronic warning light would mean an mot fail.

Is this likely to happen to me as it's running in "limp home mode" and shows FI errors at shutdown and if I don't start it within 3 secs....?

Found this regarding cars - wonder if bikes are similar http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-servicing-repair/mot-changes-2012.html  though none of my lights are safety related.

I would say it shouldn't do as it isn't subject to an emmisions test (should it?)..
No bike at present.......

I know on cars some warning lights (such as ABS) are a fail.
Not sure if any light at all is a fail though, or if bikes are the same.

A few years ago I had a Ford Explorer 4.0l 4x4 which was converted to run on LPG as well as petrol. Whenever it was switched to LPG it instantly threw the engine management light on as it couldn't work out how it was working with no petrol being used. I spoke to my MOT station and they said if it passed the emissions test they didn't care about the light as this was a common 'problem' with LPG conversions.

I have heard similar for cars, any warning light is a fail, will be interesting to see if FI is a fail for bikes. Rules should have changed this month?  think there may be a lot of cars written off for airbag lights if that is the case. Don't have any airbags thankfully, bike doesn't either!

Also notice that there is mention of HID's, there was a post about that on here a while back

Mmmm, makes we wonder what the emissions will be like in limp home mode.  I thought these were tested nowadays?

my c5 passed its Mot last week with engine management light flashing like mad. they didn't even mention it. the light flashes at you when you start the car and also bleeps 3 times.
