Could it be the tyres?
« on: April 09, 2012, 21:50:59 »
Hello All

my 1000 has a slight shudder from the front end.  The front trailwing is worn.  Has anyone experienced this/changed to a tyre which eliminates it?

If you have got a tyre which got rid of it, what are you running on yours?

Regards

Yes. trail wings were bloody aweful near the end of their lives. my anake are starting to feel a little like that but only when I'm doing 'cough' 100mph. but the front has done 14k miles.

another anakee will go on when this ones dead. but there's quite a few miles left yet

the v-stroms don't seem to be massively stable on the front end. I find once any tyre is worn you can no longer ride no handed without it shaking violently. New front has always cured this. Also find the the stroms tend to make a mess of front tyres, they seem to cup the tread blocks, probably what makes it shake. On the plus side it seems to reach an equilibrium and you can run them right out without it getting too bad.

I think that's a function of the tyre style as the BM GS tends to cup the front tread blocks too. Probably the block isn't as well supported as on a more "road" orientated tyre and can move around and cause the wear problems we see.

My tread blocks wear much more on the leading edges, none of mine have ever cupped. Might be because I've been using a fork brace most of the time?
