V-Strom Xpedition spec
« on: October 10, 2011, 19:09:02 »
Hi, can anyone help me? I have just bought a V-Strom XP and was disappointed to find that my dealer only provided 1 lock per box on my panniers - leaving me with the dilemma of choosing whether to lock the pannier lid shut or lock the pannier to the pannier support frame.

All the official Suzuki GB photos show the panniers fitted with 2 locks/box.
Has anyone else bought a wee XP? Were your panniers supplied with a pair of locks per pannier or were they supplied like mine?

don't panic, if it's like mine the lock works both ways, I think it's left turn to disconect the pannier from the frame and turn to the right to open it, neat really. didn't manage to open your photo for some reason but then I'm not a computer geek. Let me know how you get on,  :fix:
I'm not much good with computers....... but I can open a mouse with a file.

Congrats on the new bike matey. There are two locks per pannier and all four locks use the same key..

you must lock the panniers to the bike or they'll fall off when you do your first big wheely!  :auto-dirtbike:

No bike at present.......

Just as a footnote I have the same panniers as standard on me Guzzi (Trax). I have found one key fits every Trax lock. Not brilliant for security really....

You should have 4  locks and 2 keys then, one key will do all 4 locks.

Your first port of call needs to be your supplying dealer as your sale was made with them....

Whereabouts in Kernow are you matey? We're only Emmets but try to get down with our Grocklebox once a year...

What sort of width is the bike with those panniers fitted? It seems to stick out a bit from the handle bars.

Yeh, off to dealers tomorrow, I've been in touch with Suzuki GB and am awaiting a confirmation email to take to dealers and argue my case.
Located in Pz, where do you visit?

Last month we were at the Caravan Club in St Agnes, but we like the site at St Hilary a bit more. My in-laws used to stay in a small cottage on the front in Pz just opposite the outdoor pool / lido and west a bit...

Definitely locks missing there... and I would advise on putting foil inside the indicators to brighten them up a bit... I googled V-Strom XP on images and the Suzuki images show two locks per pannier..

If you got yours in June or later that may have been the exact bike that was in stock when I ordered mine but the Current Lady Piglumps preferred the grey so we waited for one from Suzuki GB...( I have to let her think she has an opinion from time to time...)

Juvecu thanks for fixing the photo link, can you let me in on where I went wrong?
Piglumps - it's a nice area, I moved down here with work 27 yr ago and have been reluctant to leave since.
Re the indies - I had a set of SV indies loafing in the garage - hence the orange lenses - they seem slightly brighter than the clear ones fitted to the XP, but neither set have a reflector lens fitted.
Interestingly, the V-Strom bulbs bayonet protrusions are offset (unlike the SV's standard 180 degrees opposite), I presume replacements can only be sourced via Suzuki???
Good news on the locks - thanks to your input and others on here I have had a result - Suzuki & G White have agreed to supply a full set of replacement locks - result!
Loving the site already. :ty:

Bayonet protusions are offset as the bulb holder is expecting orange coloured bulbs.  Whilst you can buy in line pin orange bulbs if you need them (some aftermarket holders use them) but standard fitment on cars/bikes etc seems to be if you need an orange bulb the pins are offset (to prevent white bulb/white lens).  If you buy standard Halfords orange bulbs you should find the pins offset to match your holder...
